Hiking in San Gerardo de Rivas, Costa Rica: CLOUDBRIDGE. Part 3.

Five o’ clock, the rooster crows and I jump out of my bed. In record time I arrive Cloudbridge: only thirty minutes from San Gerardo!

And Kiki beams alomst like the sun ?

Today’s topic: Cloudbridge, third third!

After arriving Cloudbridge I slip into the forest.

I enjoy the silence – until suddenly a noise, a loud rustling of leaves, interrupts the idyll. Numbed I stand still. What is it? Or better question: WHO?

Maybe monkeys? THAT would be cool!

Or maybe wild boars? Less cool!

Or… – thinking of this and my heart stops beating – …a panther hunting?

My heart has started beating again. But now very, very fast. What should I do?

I wait. But the noise gets louder. Withdrawal? No!

I take my camera and very, very quiet I go towards the noise. In case I have to leave this world I want you to know why/who/how!

Phew, my heart is beating! And then my camera makes Click, as the noise maker is standing infront of me… It’s the most dangerous species on earth – and has a chainsaw in it’s hands!

Have you ever watched the movie ‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre‘ ???!!!

“Hola…” I say and carefully I raise my hand. For greeting!

“Hola,” he gives me a nod with his chainsaw. But he seems to be here in a peaceful mission.

Interesting that I couldn’t hear the engine noise, only the rustling. But maybe the engine has the same noise like the nearby river.

Howsoever, very relieved I walk deeper into the forest.

And here too it is just beautiful! And even dry as there was no rain yesterday! But still, I am happy to hike with my hiking boots and not wearing sneakers.

Suddenly wham-bam! Above me is a riot! Starteled I look upwards and: there are capuchin monkeys! But they were even more starteled than me and disappeared in seconds.

But I have to sing a German folksong:

Das Wandern ist des Kiki’s Lust, das Wa-ha-ndern…

That means: ‘Hiking is Kiki’s passion, Hi-hi-king…’

And  maybe, only maybe, I exercise sekretly to overcome the Mt. Chirripó before I leave…
