My family
My family is rather big. Padre Memo has ten siblings. Madre Margarita twelve. But no worries, the siblings do not live with us in the house 😉
Memo and Margarita have six children. Three daughters live with their husbands and children in own houses but on the same property.
And then here live four dogs, eight cats and many chicken – as for breakfast they love to eat Pinto de Gallo, it’s rice with beans, and to this some scrambled eggs.
That’s the property
and this my little best friend
When I arrived I was welcomed like a familiy member! And that’s how I feel since then: I am their seventh child!
Mi padre, mi madre and Kiki
PS: they look a bit strict in the pictures, but in reality they always have a smile in their face
In the house is always life, as there is always at least one grandchild and at least one daughter, with and without husband.
We have breakfast all together (who ever wants to join) around 7 am: Pinto de Gallo (= Reis und Bohnen) and we chat a little bit.
Lunch is about noon: rice, beans, vegetables.
And dinner is served by Doña Margarita around 6 pm: rice, beans, vegetables.
The food maybe sounds a little bit unexciting, but so far I really like it! There is always different veggies, and sometimes a salad or a soup.
But last Sunday we had pizza! After church we went by bus in another village for having lunch in a pizzaria.
Waiting for the bus
Why by bus? Nobody owns a car. The bus station isn’t far from our home the bus is going every three hours. So we have to wait for one and a half hour after lunch for the next bus home. But everybody here is used to be patient or walk eight kilometers to work (!).
Costa Rican Pizza – tastes like in the US
And always and always they chat. Also with me. And everybody tries really hard to speak slowly so that I could understand. And are patient when I try to find the word in the right tense and the right person… But I already did some progress!
Well, and about 6 pm it is dark. Black – dark! There is electricity in the house but not too bright. And if you are on the streets, ahem, on the street of San Gerardo, then you really need a flashlight. And if there weren’t the clouds you would see the most beautiful stars in the sky.
At 8 pm, latest 9 pm everybody starts to yawn and it’s time to say buenas noches…
AND: who wants to travel to Costa Rica and also prefers staying with a family than in a hotel: Homestay in Costa Rica
My room:
My room is fine. Well, coming from a country like Austria nearly every other country in this world doesn’t have the same standard. But my time in Thailand was definately harder than here!
Like in Thailand the floor is made of simple concret. And also Kiki’s nose has to deal with mold in a country with such a high humidity.
At the first sight I was afraid of my bed, as the mattress is pretty saggy. But in spite of this I sleep amazingly good!
At night it is a bit cool. But I have a thick pajama and so far I don’t freeze. Just a bit after having a shower as the water is something between cold a little bit less cold. But having a cold shower is healthy!
And really nice is: I have my own bedroom! The bathroom I share with the family but at night I just can sleep, not having drunken room mates…
The house:
The house has a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, my room, my “parents” room and another room with two beds in it.
And it has a little garden, like mis padres say. But no, no, no! The garden is huge!!! And you find everything: bananas, coffee, avocados, oranges, lemons, lemones dulces, papayas, herbs and vegetables… and maybe more.
And while taking some pictures, my little amiga races towards me:
And my amiga for sure has an amigo! And her friends are my friends!
CUTE ❤️
Okay, Okay, the title is HOUSE. I let myself carried away with this cute doggies…
Well: here the living room:
And the kitchen:
And here you can see the whole palace:
And me, happy 🙂
And that’s the view from the house…with fog and with sunshine:
I hope you have a little impression how Kiki lives, in San Gerardo de Rivas in Costa Rica…
