‘This will be a nice morning walk’ thinks Yiyi and follows me when I leave the house.
‘She will return the moment she realizes that I won’t go only to work’ I am thinking.
Today’s planned route: one kilometer until the beginning of Mt Chirripó. Then uphill. At kilometer four there is a fork – just one kilometer and you arrive in Cloudbridge. And from there I walk, more ore less, cozy back home.
Yiyi does not return and I am happy about my funny and lively hiking companion. I really like her! In general I like the dogs here. Allthough not educated they are well-educated. Not like in Austria, dogs there are educated but spoiled…
Most of the Austrian try to educate their dog. But mostly fail…
Dogs here don’t know the commands sit! or down! or even shake!. But they know not to jump on people. They know not to enter strange houses – allthough the door is open. And they don’t run off – allthough properties don’t have fences and dogs don’t have leashes.
So I walk – and Yiyi with me. Do I stop, does she stop. Do I continue, does she continue. I don’t have to care about her – we just smile at each other from time to time – and we both can enjoy the nature and the silence. I love it! I totally had forgotten HOW nice it can be to have a dog!
Yiyi is small, but bounces like a mountain goat. My light-footedness only is lessened by the mud floor as my hiking boots get heavier and heavier…
But brave we tramp further and further, higher and higher… Suddenly we arrive kilometer five. Oops! We missed the junction.
Start at 1250 m – after kilometer five: 2398 m
After a cheerful song we walk back to kilometer four…
….and immerse the forest of Cloudbridge. Nice. Steep. Nice and steep and narrow, the path. And all the roots look like little snakes. ?.
But stop! I won’t let my fear ruin my day!
Just said I jump back: right in front of me lies a huge snake! And it does not disappear. What should I do? Going back…? NO!
I am full with fear, but I take a picture! The snake doesn’t like that and finally leaves.
Really carefully I go further. But really carefully. And really slowly. And only two minutes later, I swear, lies the next reptil on my path.
The first one was pretty huge, about one and a half meters. This one is tiny, but loooong! About forty centimeters!
And it is not leaving! So I need to PASS her! Brrrrrr. Only the thought of it makes me trembling! My personal nightmare!
I don’t want to continue my hike. I am too afraid to step on one. But unfortunately I have to keep going. Brrrrr! Brrrr! Brrrr!
Back home I show my family the pictures: Those weren’t dangerous. At least.
Then they calm me that there are only few snakes in San Gerardo. Only in Manuel Antonio, where I will go tomorrow, in Manuel Antonio are maaaaaaaany!
Well, thank you for the info…. But for sure I will go anyway 😉
Therefore I have to work a little bit now – then I can have a bit off next week.
PS: Today I created this flyer (and for those it is not obvious: No, I didn’t write three times the same text, but – to reduce print costs – brought three flyers on one paper…)
