Geeeeeeez, I don’t find the time to write everything down what I experience…but there are some news!
Where should I start… maybe with last weekend.
Last Saturday we were in the karaoke bar – and therefore I slept in on Sunday! Until seven! As my family was right on their way to church I decided to walk the two kilometres to Canaan, a neighbouring village, to have breakfast in David’s little bakery.
David too is volunteer here, but local, – he teaches computer classes. And owns this little bakery.
I enjoy my breakfast and David joins me.
He tells me, that he sells his bread on a market in Tinamastes every Tuesday. Well, well, I’d like to join him!
So on Tuesday, half past six, David (producer and vendor of bread) and Dayana (producer and vendor of cheese) and I head towards La Feria en Tinamastes!
On a hill there is a hall – and people are selling their stuff. Not only bread and cheese from Quesos Canaan (of course organic), but as well vegetables, fruits, cookies and cakes, jewelry, eggs, paintings, honey, etc.
The ‘Feria’ in Tinamastes: everything is produced organically
Cheese vendor Dayana is really nice and tells me, that she has learned English with Proyecto San Gerardo (the organization I am working for while I’m here). And she’d love to practice conversation.
As one project is called: Amigo Ingles – English Conversation I offer to meet her for some practicing. So we meet tomorrow for chatting a bit.
Dayana and David
So the next day I walk again to Canaan to visit Dayana.
In San Gerardo children are playing soccer…
…and a bit further some vultures are chilling!
And that’s how a Costa Rican cemetery looks like, beautiful!
Dayana and I have a nice chat and her English is very good! She tells me, that she and her boyfriend will go on vacation the next week, to Manuel Antonio. I check out some pictures online and decide, that I have to go there one day!
Then I hike back uphill, to San Gerardo de Rivas:
Back home a message from Dayana is waiting:
“If you like you are welcome to join us in our vacations to Manuel Antonio!”
If I like? Indeed, I like!
Kiki makes a trip to Manuel Antonio
Unfortunately there is no room left in the hotel they will stay – except one bed in a six-bed-room, nooooooo. I find another Hotel.
I decided for the one upill. It has the best view. To get to the beach I must climb down the steep hill – but then I keep in good condition 😉
A nice sunset at home:
Yeiii, just a few more days and I will leave for Manuel Antonio! We will go by bus – that needs a few hours, but is cheap as dirt!
I am looking forward 🙂
PS: Of course I also work! On average five hours daily. I design a new website for the organization Proyecto San Gerardo with the main goal: Update the webpage and attract new volunteers.
Proyecto San Gerardo supports the community of San Gerardo de Rivas and neighboring villages, in their efforts to be self-sustaining. In teaching languages (tourism!!!), computer classes, first aid classes (a doctor is only coming every two weeks), scholarship for students, …
“You are working like a Trojan” says my boss. She has to give her okay for the things I am doing, but has unfortunately only (too) few time, so I can’t do that much I’d like to…
My boss is on vacation in Canada. She has a substitute, but this substitute was also on vacation when I arrived. So the first week I was on my own, with nobody to help!
On my first day of work the scholarship money for the students was handed over. So I went there, introduced myself, took pictures and did interviews. And I’m a bit proud of myself – I did that in Spanish!
After my first week I had over ten new contacts in my phone – all people that are involved with the organization (students or teacher).
So all my expeditions here are rather work… 😉 I have to take new photos, and with every interview and meeting I get to know more fundamental and backround knowledge – that is important to improve and update the website.
Do you know that? You try hard, but still your opposite acts not the way you’d appreciate it, maybe even jerky?
Of course I’m allowed to practice the supreme discipline Communication – it’s not so easy with some people…
And here as well I am proud to tell, that all the negative deflects off my aura – and does not affect my temper!!!
Finally I’m allowed to live, to experience, that what I had to learn so hard for the last years…
????????????????
PPS: with Kiki’s News always up to date!
